The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has recognized the International Code Council’s 2009 IFC - International Fire Code as an alternate compliance option for means of egress in its Occupational Safety and Health Standards. ICC – International Code Council petitioned the federal agency, asking for its International Fire Code to be recognized as a way for an employer to demonstrate compliance with the OSHA Exit Routes and Emergency Management (formerly called Means of Egress) requirements.

In jurisdictions where the 2009 International Fire Code is enforced, employers whose buildings have been inspected and approved can use that approval to demonstrate compliance with OSHA requirements (Sec 1910, Subpart E).  In Section 4604.22, the 2009 IFC requires the retroactive installation of Luminous Egress Path Markings in staircases of high-rise buildings. American PERMALIGHT, Inc. offers the matching product range.

New P100 Facilities Standard published by GSA

GSA – General Services Administration published its new P100 Facilities Standard for the Public Buildings Service, which establishes design standards and criteria for new buildings, repairs & alterations, and modernizations for the Public Buildings Service (PBS) of the General Services Administration (GSA).

Exit Stair Path Markings and Identification Signs (described on Pages 238 & 239 in Section 7.4 Means of Egress) shall also comply with NFPA 101 plus special P100 requirements.  American PERMALIGHT, Inc.’s UL1994-listed egress path marking product line fulfills the NFPA 101- and the special P100 requirements.
