During an interior fire, whether it is inside a building, a railcar, a passenger ship or airplane, smoke forms within seconds and quickly rises under the ceiling, obscuring the electrical lighting and signs installed in high location. Visibility and air to breathe remain in floor proximity for the longest time. Occupants are expected to crawl low underneath the smoke layer. A low-installed photoluminescent emergency evacuation system quickly guides evacuees out of darkness to safety in case of a fire, an accident or attack, a power failure or at night.

In clear air, occupants can easily see the high-location signs.

With smoke present, occupants can only make out a short distance in front of them. They are encouraged to drop to the floor and follow the photoluminescent floor proximity egress path markings.
American PERMALIGHT®, Inc. offers you floor-proximity photoluminescent egress path markings in compliance with requirements for buildings as well as means of transportation, such as passenger ships and passenger trains.
