American Permalight® egress path markings are UL 1994 listed and designed for activation by LED or fluorescent lighting. Our systems include:

  • Step edge markings

  • Floor- and wall-mounted perimeter demarcation lines

Products are also tested for slip resistance to UL 410, and many models satisfy requirements under California Building Code Chapter 11B for striping for the visually impaired.

IBC/IFC Code Requirements for Egress Path Markings

Section 1024 (2009/2012 IBC) and Section 1025 (2015/2018 IBC) require luminous markings in high-rise buildings with occupied floors more than 75 feet above the lowest level of fire department access. These codes apply to occupancy types A, B, E, I, M, and R-1.
Code-mandated marking locations include:
  • Horizontal leading edge of steps
  • Leading edge and perimeter of landings
  • Handrails and door hardware
  • Perimeter demarcation lines(floor or wall-mounted)
  • Obstacles protruding into the egress path
  • Door frames and exit doors
  • Floor identification signs

NYC Code Requirements

American Permalight® also offers solutions that comply with New York City Local Law 141 and Local Law 26, including:
  • Photoluminescent aluminum strips, tapes, nosings, and signs with NYC-required labeling
  • NYC Local Law 141 and 26
  • Door exit symbols and custom-made floor identification signage with NYC required labeling
